Airtel Africa has announced a significant leadership transition, with Sunil Bharti Mittal set to retire as Chairman following the company’s Annual General Meeting in July 2026. The move marks a pivotal moment for the telecom and mobile money provider, which operates across 14 African markets. Gopal Vittal will assume the role of Non-Executive Chairman, while Shravin Bharti Mittal steps in as Deputy Chair, ensuring continuity of the founding family’s influence.

Amara Raja Group has entered the defence electronics segment through its R&D arm, Amara Raja Design Alpha, marking a strategic diversification into mission-critical technologies. The company has developed an indigenous Power Conditioning Cabinet (PCC) for naval sonar systems, with approximately 61 percent local components, enabling nearly 40 percent cost efficiency. This move aligns with India’s push for defence indigenisation and reduced import dependence.

India’s aviation sector faced a major operational disruption in December when hundreds of IndiGo flights were cancelled due to a shortage of pilots linked to new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) regulations. In response, the airline has provided compensation totaling approximately Rs 163.92 crore to affected passengers, largely through travel coupons. Government officials have confirmed that corrective measures are being implemented to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
